By mining the past 30 years of news stories, a new computer system can help identify when and where a revolution is likely to occur. The two main techniques used included sentiment analysis and “full-text geocoding” to match to a location. The process runs on the SGI Altix supercomputer Nautilus. While my personal game system preference is XBOX360, it appears that the Department of Defense prefers Playstation 3. As this Boing Boing article explains, the DOD recently ordered 2,200 PS3s to add capacity to their PS3 based supercomputer.
