Google now offers the capability to not only access many public data sets, but to explore the data using their visualization tools. Cool stuff.

Google Labs announced a new product today, Google Fusion Tables. Fusion Tables is about collaborating with others around data. Merge data sources, discuss the data, visualize, and publish to the web. Take a tour of Google Fusion Tables or read the post from the Google Research Blog.
Google has brought its search and visualization power to some public data. Check out the Google Blog for more info. For example, if you search for “unemployment rate San Francisco” the first search result will be for this chart. The first data sets available are from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau’s Population Division.

Google has created an API that lets you access multiple data sources that you can then display in your choice from a large selection of visualizations. You can use it to create reports and dashboards, all online. They have a large gallery of sample visualizations to give you some ideas to get started.
