We’ve written about Kaggle before, but here’s a new post from the New York Times about the site and some new funding they’ve received.
Overstock.com has partnered with Rich Relevance to offer a $1 million prize for those that can help improve their product recommendations. Here’s the Fast Company article. To find out more about the contest, check out the RecLab Prize site.
Kaggle has hosted several data mining competitions, similar to the Netflix prize, but recently announced a new and big one. It’s called the Heritage Health Prize and the prize has been set at $3M. The focus on the prize is being able to predict when a person needs to go to the hospital before they actually make a visit. Here’s some more info from O’Reilly Radar. Mozilla announces the winners of their open data visualization competition.
Check out the 2010 INFORMS Data Mining Contest. Participants are challenged to predict stock prices at five minute intervals. Visit the site to download the training data set. The submission deadline in October 10th, 2010.
With the first Netflix Prize coming to a conclusion, Netflix has announced Netflix Prize 2. This one will be shorter than the first with prizes being awarded after 6 and 18 months. Here’s an article from O’Reilly with more info.
